Happy New Year! I wanted to share pictures from our last day at the studio in Helena. Thanks to our friend Jan King , she was there with her camera to document the move! Just to clarify,Dave and I are not flicking off the camera, we are pointing to the Exit sign! We had lots of good times in this building and will miss our friends in Helena. However, we are very excited about what the new year brings! This is the passover of the keys to the new tenant, Dave Schleuter from Buck Creek Stained Glass. He is doing some renovations but will be open January 14th, so be sure to stop in and see him and his beautiful work!

If you are in desperate need for a Wildflower Wax candle, go to Birmingham Whole foods and pick one up there. Atlanta Whole Foods, West Paces Ferry store in Buckhead also just got a great selection! Our new website should be up very soon for online ordering! We will also be doing some art shows this spring and summer. October Boots and Candle Color Gone Wrong...

Two pairs of Size 7 boots have come in this week. The pink and brown are a pair of Justin's, which I have in my closet as well and I have to say are the most comfortable boots I have ever worn. The black and white with the phoenix are hand pegged all leather, made in Mexico, haven't seen another pair like them, not vintage, but I wish they were my size!

We have been pouring fall scents all week and they smell amazing! Pictured above is a new candle scent we have, blueberry crisp. I poured a few of these to try and got the color all wrong! They are supposed to be a purple-ish blue and the tops turned out forest green... I have two shorter versions of the candle pictured that we are giving away this morning to the first 2 people to make it to the studio and mention that you saw this post! Ready, Set, Go....p.s. Dave is just leaving the house so give him 30 minutes!!!

The Men In My Life....

Meet Mojo, the sweetest dog ever! We adopted him a couple of months ago. He's very photogenic, I just love his gorgeous eyes. You can find him hanging out at Wildflower Wax during the week...If you want to make friends he really really really likes treats of all kinds!

My Davie! What can't this man do! He cuts my hair, tatoos,(he's a wicked good artist), plays bass, guitar, makes jewelry, drives a school bus, is a comedian on the side. Our 15th year anniversary is coming up in a couple of weeks, I have to get creative...

This is my favorite time of year in the studio. Yesterday I poured our Spicy Orange and Hot Apple Pie candles and you could smell the scent of fall all the way down the street! It has been SO extremely hot here in Birmingham the last few weeks! Glad to report the Air conditioning is now fixed at Wildflower Wax...These are the perfect candle for a hot summer's day. We just made these custom candles for Shelby Living Mag., and had a few left over. If you like the combination of refreshing citrus with a hint of earthy basil, these may just become a favorite part of my summertime! Here is a glimpse behind the scenes at the 24 hour process we use....I can say no more, the rest is a secret which took years to perfect! Not much laundry or cleaning got d0ne at my house , however, I made a ridiculous ammount of jewelry this week. Dave left me at home to work, while he went to the studio. By the way did I mention....!!! Dave is going to be tatooing out of Wildflower Wax very very soon. The health inspector came out and we got the cities approval. Now all we need is to finish the back room. I am so happy Dave will be doing what he loves again. He left behind tatooing years ago to spend more time with his wife and kids. While we get the back room ready he is Tatooing out in Springville at Images In Ink. Pics of his work will be coming soon....
Okay, back to the jewelry.... I always have a great time designing these one of a kind pieces. The last grouping I did sold out fast, which made me very very happy!!! Well.... my mom did trade a piece she bought yesterday, when she saw the new ones I had just made! She's the only one I allow to do that sort of thing, but I owe her big time for everything she does for us...
Love the new piece with the lock and key....I am just a little perplexed at how you unlock the lock if you can't get to the key. Now that I am thinking about it, I kind of like the symbolism, isn't love much, like that anyway? Many places in our heart that will never be open unless we find a way to open them...

Scents That Influence Our Senses

Coconut is one of my very favorite scents and flavors! Our sense of smell and taste are truly a gift. They remind us of the good things in life and the bad which all affect our 5 senses in one way or another. Over the years I have seen our customers select candle scents by their memories, circumstances, or for the candles aesthetic beauty. It is quite an interesting process to watch. For me coconut reminds me of a summer day I spent in Cancun... The sun... sand and the oceanside cafe where the waiter brought us coconut ice cream in a big bowl covered with Kahlua, chocolate sauce and shredded coconut! Our Wildflower Wax signature Mandarin Coconut candles are one of my favorite summer candle fragrances....
If you haven't been in to the studio lately, we have moved the candle making area to the front. Here are the fragrance oil bottles in our creation area. On a few Friday nights a month we have candle making nights where you can make your own candles customized with your favorite scents, colors and charms. You can bring your friends, drinks, ipod's, anything you need to feel at home. Well...anything LEGAL that makes you feel at home! We are still getting raised eyebrows when people see the lounge area! People have asked, "Is that an Opium Den or a Tarot Card Reading Room"? Quite simply...no, it's a place for our guests to relax, bored husbands to sit, or for me to pull the curtains and take a nap!

I have been hard at work designing these one of a kind pieces. From trash to treasure, old to new, rough and tattered meets vintage glam! I do have a hard time parting with these, I never make two the same. The cool thing with our jewelry is... you won't show up at a party with the same accessories as your boyfriends X, it's earth friendly to recycle, and the best part....these pieces range from $20-45.00!!! We just put these out TODAY, one was used in a photo shoot for Shelby County Living, if you are interested hurry in!!!! Wildflower Wax was invited to do Roadside Relics last weekend, A Yardsale with flair! Let me tell you, it was more than a yardsale!!! Please go to the link to see all the pictures. Friday night everyone dressed like they were going to a Vintage Prom, lots of lights strung all over, wine, food, art and nobody showed up in the same dress! Rachel put this event together in her home with the help of many friends. I think her plan is to do this twice a year. I was hoping once a month! I haven't had that much fun in a very long time!!!

This weekend in Helena is the Buck Creek Festival, a block away from our store. Lots of Music and art, I hear it is fantastic!!! Book Signing/Release Party Tonight At Wildflower Wax!

We are thrilled to have author Tina Westbrook at Wildflower Wax tonight from 7:00-9:00. Her book "Letter's From Alcatraz, forty years later", is fiction, inspired by a true story. Once I picked it up I was not able to put it down, so I finished it in one day! I don't want to say too much so...you'll just have to check it out for yourself. Tina was on CBS this morning talking about the book, they haven't posted the link to the interview yet. There will be wine tonight, and The Alexa Rankin Band will be playing outside at 7:00.

FRYE and vintage RALPH LAUREN boots..

I wanted to share 2 pairs of my favorite boots we have in stock, well...actually one, we sold the pair on the right this weekend. They are vintage Ralph Lauren, made in the 80's, handpegged, all leather, gorgeous inlay's, these are a collector boot and I am sad to see them go! The pair on the left are FRYE!!! These are also unique, have a great heel and are great looking on! They will fit you if you are between a size 8-9, and are a fraction of the cost of brand new Frye boots! Dave did the Native American artwork pictured behind the boots. There is a set of 3 of them, people have asked to buy them, however I am not yet ready to part with them!

As far as new candle scents go...I will be posting pics this week. We have a new Sea Kelp, that has been selling really quick, clean and fresh. Also we have a new scent called Eclipse that's charcoal grey, it smells like the Abercrombie Fitch scent Ezra, it's masculine, clean, but not overwhelming.

We are booking candle making sessions for the month of March on Saturday nights. Friday's are hard for people coming from work. We only have 3 or 4 spots for

this Saturday the 6th, the other option would be Saturday March 20th! Give us a call if you have any questions.

Since it's been quite some time since our last post, I thought you should hear and see what we have been up to... Dave and I went to market in Atlanta and were not blown away by the things we were seeing, to much of the same thing you see everywhere, and those of you who know anything about us know we don't like ANYTHING we make or sell to be the same. We had way too many conversations with manufacturers who outsource to China, so they can mass produce, lower their product quality and in return, they can make a fortune. We as Americans are letting this happen, please support products made in the USA and your local artists! I am of the opinion that we should EXPRESS ourselves as individuals, mind, body and soul, so that we can share our unique gifts . If we all look the same how is that possible! I'm just saying....Wildflower Wax is here to help with that! We have been busy designing jewelry, all one of a kind pieces! New candle scents, the one in the background is Black Currant, very nice! The necklace in this picture is vintage style beads, made to wrap twice and wear as a choker, clasp in front. This one is great you can wrap it a few times and wear it as a choker or layer other pieces and wear it long.

We also have collected one of a kind vintage pieces that look great layered with our jewelry...

Two different pieces, the shorter one is double wrapped, the long piece can be worn as is, or it can be doubled to wear up high....Dave has made some great wooden crosses with copper, pics coming soon. Candle making this Friday night January 29th, call for info!

Dave and I want to thank you so much for your support this year! What a wonderfully supportive community Helena has been! I will say it has been one interesting journey after another, oh the stories I could tell.....
Wildflower Wax will be closed until Tuesday January 12th, we do have to go to the stuff mart(AKA: America's Mart in Atlanta) which puts me in a whirlwind like Madame Blueberry from Veggie Tales without all the money to spend!
Our next candlemaking night will be Friday January 15th, so please spread the word for us. We have been making many positive changes this week to the studio which I can't wait for you to see. I would post some pictures, however my sweet husband got me a Cannon Rebel for Christmas that I have not learned to use yet. He also got me this cute head band I am wearing in the above pic, which Alexa keeps trying to steal from me!
So....if anyone has any suggestions about what products they would like to see in Wildflower Wax, please share your opinions!

There have been many grinch sightings this weekend in Old Town. He was spotted at several businesses. He was fairly well behaved, however, he say's that he LOVES the stench in Wildflower Wax, and I'm afraid he got out with a handful of candles! He tried to take Lora's dog from the bead biz thinking Rocket was Max from Whoville!So, here's the deal....Rumor has it that tomorrow night Monday December 21st, the Grinch will be delivering products and gift certificate's from Old Town to houses here in Helena that he finds to be visually appealing, decorated and filled with Christmas cheer! He likes food too and apple cider and hot cocoa, and so do his friends! Let me just say...........

Please spread the word, Keep a watch on your pet's and your decorations, cause old habits die hard..... We love you Helena! Thanks for your support, and hopefully we will get to see you tomorrow night!

The Grinch has reared his ugly head in Old Town! Some think he's scary, I personally think he's.......... kinda sexy!!! The word is, he will be in Old Town tomorrow with candy and available for photo op's! I will say, he is a bit of a clepto, so store owners watch your merchandise....The grinch has lots of surprises in store over the next few day's, so don't go far...... Did I mention that we are open on Sunday's through the holiday season! Drop in candle making 12-4, we close up at 5:00. Well, I was hoping that Dave would wake up early this morning and take me to IHOP, however he has already informed me once this morning that this is his only day to sleep late, and he looked very mean and nasty, like the Grinch when he said it...So while my stomach is making awful noises(not loud enough to wake the grinch), I will tell you about our new candle scent combo's! Pictured below is Pear, Ginger & Gingseng!! This is a hard one to describe, you'll just have to smell it. Then we have..... Buttery Gingerbread, Spicy Orange, Tuscan Winter, layered, not all mixed together. This one has been our top seller this week and last week. Tuscan Winter is one of our signature blends, Italian Biscotti, Cranberry and Pine nut...Many of you have been asking about our boots stock. We have gotten in 25 pairs this week, all sizes, mens and womens!

Dave is still asleep, I'm headed to the kitchen for some coffee, and to watch Church Of The Highlands online service at 9:30. Always a great message via satellite. New Candle's, Peppermint Cocoa Swirl...My favorite!

My two favorite combinations, chocolate and peppermint collide. I have this one in my room and adore it. Peppermint on top, Hot Chocolate on bottom. When you get to the middle, you get both scents at once! Have I mentioned that we put the maximum ammount of scent in our candles, so you can smell them when they are not even lit!

These have been selling so fast... Gingerbread, Spicy Orange and Tuscan Winter combination, they smell fantastic and the color combination is gorgeous! Tuscan Winter is one of our signature blends of , italian biscotti, pine nut and cranberry!

Open House And Candle Making

This is our 9th year to have a candle open house. For six years Dave and I started selling our candles once a year at Christmas time to a few of our friends and family in our home. Everyone loved them and the word got out and they brought friends with them and each year it grew. From there we went to over 20 art shows a year, then on to wholesale, making sometimes 100 candles a day in our basement. We ship our candles out all over the U.S., but I am proud to say they are made right here in HELENA ALABAMA! We started doing first Friday night of the month candlemaking. Last Friday we had twenty five people come in from all over to make candles into gorgeous artwork! All different colors and scents. Here are some examples....

We are taking reservations for Friday night November 20th. We have time slots open at 6:00,7:00, and 8:00, $20.00 a person for a 4x41/2, 100 hours of burn time. Great to customize as gifts. Acoustic band, bring your wine and your friends!

A little selfish maybe! I have been looking for a pair of these Vintage 70's Capezio's with the turquoise butterfly's for a year now in my size. They finally arrived the day before we went to Atlanta. Not great for walking in all day long through market. I did have to take them off and walk barefoot...that's okay, I looked liked a redneck, they still look cool! We have over 70 pair of boots in stock this week, this would be a good time to check some out. I couldn't fit them all in a picture, but here are a few..... Size 61/2 Luchesse, like new, hardly worn, comfortable, gorgeous!

Size 9 , black with red inlays,vintage Dingo, fit like an 8, great heel. We are pouring tons of new fall candle scents that are truly amazing. I'll be posting some pics soon!

Bribes can sometimes backfire!

Well...This is our sweet 12 year old Faith, who hates getting her picture made! So please don't think that I am a bad mom always taking Alexa's pictures, it's just not Faith's favorite thing to do. Sunday I had this light bulb idea, that if I would bribe her with a Coke Icee she would let me take pictures....As you can see it worked...for a minute. Then.....the bees came, who also like coke Icee. She ran inside very angry, crying, left her Icee on the front porch of the studio, and here's what happened next......... Alexa happened next! Camera hog, who also likes icees! Not a good combination....Faith watching from inside the window as Alexa consumed her icee, it was not a happy day in paradise......

In the last picture Faith is still a little bitter and doesn't care that she has hair stuck in her mouth along with the straw, she is just happy to have her treat back......Don't you feel this way sometimes?

We have a very exciting event right here in Helena at the ampitheatre, which is across the street from our studio THIS Saturday.... Bo Bice will be the headliner. It is a charity benefit, well you can read all about the bands and the details right here at ,JAMMIN AT THE JUNCTION. Dave has been hard at work designing the tshirts for both the poker run and concert. He looks pretty cute when he draws! However interrupting his concentration will bring great wrath, gnarling teeth, the kiss of death, so I just stay away!

Alexa, a wonderful gift from God...

Today is Alexa's b'day. This may be to much information for some, or if you are uncomfortable with the mention of God's name, you may not wish to read any further....16 years ago today, I was faced with a very difficult decision(pictured below), for those of you who know her, you may ask how was that so hard...I found out I was pregnant, Dave and I had only known each other 2 months, I had never seen his family or he mine, many were pressuring me to get an abortion, I had absolutely No relationship with God, and had absolutely no clue where I was going in life. However, I knew without a doubt, I was bringing her into this world. It was the very best decision I have ever made. Through her sweet spirit, her gentle ways, her unconditional love and her spiritual understanding at such a young age....I was for once able to comprehend that God makes no mistakes.... God has used her to lead others to Christ since she was only 6 years old, her prayer when she perfoms is not that she will do well or sound good, but that others will be drawn to HIM. She has been writing music for several years now. She enjoys playing for churches and youth groups all over. I just posted 3 new songs on her myspace. Turquoise at Wildflower Wax!

Dave got to work early this morning and surprised me by painting the doors to the studio my VERY favorite color turquoise and another surprise which is pictured at the bottom...... Vintage Capezio Boots inlayed with turquoise and a wooden cross handmade by Allen Crawford....

This was my other surprise this morning, while I was at home learning how to make chai tea and homeschooling Alexa, okay I was watching an old episode of Lost....Dave took apart an old wooden structure in our back yard, moss and all, left, for work at 6:30, painted it turquoise and hand hammered a copper heart that reads Faith. I suffered a loss this week.... my camera of 5 years, completely dead. Then the panic set in, what to do?" The

camera I want is only close to a thousand dollars, and my birthday was last week," I told Dave with a big

smile! The consensus is that I have to wait until Christmas, hmm. In despair I immediately started digging

around looking for Faith's Coolpix she got for her b'day last year that she took 3 pictures with, the batteries

apparently went dead so she just stopped using it! So for now it's mine.....

I don't know about you, but I am ready for fall and these new candles just out this week are really putting

me in the mood.... Hot Apple Pie Tops, Spicy Orange Middle, Gingerbread Bottoms....and if you haven't been

by the studio you won't believe the smell. If you drive by with your windows open, you can smell them!

The candle bling is new this week. Great to wrap around a candle or wine bottle to give as a gift! The tall

candle with the cross is ONE candle that we poured, 18 to 20 inches tall!

I know it's been a while since i posted....we have been trying to settle into our new routine of school, getting back from Atlanta market, sickness, and just plain old responsibilities. Today I decided to get my camera out and take some pictures of some of our new TOYS!!!! The new rings we got in , I have to say were my inspiration and they are moving out the door at a very fast pace! If you like the square toe cowboy boots, these are Justin size 71/2 and very comfortable with hand pegged bottoms. I have these in my closet in a size 9 and they are one of my very favorites. We just got them in on Friday and they are waiting to be tried on and taken home!

Dave and I went to a fantastic wedding shower this weekend at Magnolia Manor in Helena. Jean the beautiful bride to be...tall...platinum blonde hair... who I have to say looks like a Hollywood movie star with southern charm all wrapped up into one. Two words, Love Her!!! She requested one of Dave's paintings as a wedding gift and this is what she got. I loved it so much, I have to admit I didn't want to part with it! I don't think some of the ladies over 60 knew how to react or what to say! It's kind of a girl thing so her husband will probably want to put it in a closet. So excited to announce that pretty soon they WILL be in the CLOSET on the t-shirt designs we are making out of Dave's designs, which you can get right here at Wildflower Wax!

I know this has nothing to do with Wildflower Wax, however, yesterday I was doing some shopping in a lower income area, with bags in hand, walked out of the store to see a man in a wheelchair with no legs, beyond middle aged, tired, weathered and worn, holding a cup. Without thinking, I immediately reached for my purse fumbled around for some money and dropped it in his cup. He was so sweet, looking back I could tell he wanted someone to talk to. All that was going through my mind was, I hope he doesn't spend it on booze, drugs, or bingo. I drove to the other side of the parking lot to Mcdonald's, all of a sudden with hamburger in mouth, started crying. I realized that over the past year my heart had started getting hard, something that I never thought would happen to me. A year ago I would have sat down and asked him his name and if he needed anything. My philosophy has always been that people in suits and ties are not always the ones with the answers. I probably missed a really great conversation. Jesus didn't wear a suit and tie, or have a college degree. I have challenged myself this week to search and find what has made my heart hard, and fix it quick! What is your heart condition like? Please don't make the mistake I did.....

Atlanta Market

America's Mart,aka the stuff mart as we call it, in Atlanta is beyond fun for us! It is not only a place for us to go look at all of the new fun things that people have been known to act like ravenous vultures to write orders for ,so that they can be the first and only in their zip code to carry the products. It is a place where Dave and I can hang out, eat, drink coffee, laugh at the disgusting things we find in the downtown Atlanta hotel rooms, such as unidentified stains on the ceiling in not your traditional colors, huge bleach stains on the carpet of a 4 star hotel in the shape of a body, flies, and my favorite a half smoked joint on the balcony(no we didn't finish it off!) It is a place to meet new friends or bring friends to help you make decisions(Allen and Dawn we missed you terribly!) I can't wait to show you some of the new lines we picked up, 5 of them are based out of Cali!

This was the best part of Sunday night! Our trip to Azio, pizza with sausage and green olives, a tradition my friend Alisa and I started around 4th grade, a great combo. I will be posting the pics of some of the new products that come in as they show up. Have a wonderful day!

Alexa, our sweet and very talented 15 year old, will be doing an acoustic set on Friday night at the studio from 6:30 until the movie in the park starts across the street around 8:00. This is a video of the song she wrote last week called "Reap What You Sow". I have to say this is not the usual praise and worship music that she writes, it seems to fall more into the country music genre! However, sometimes the drama in life inspires creative moments....... If you would like to make a candle tomorrow night before the movie, it will be ready to unmold after the movie is over. Remember, we stay open until 9:30 ish on Friday's. Bring a date, your kids, whatever you like to drink, we will provide the ice and cups!

our sweet daphne & i think his name was brutus! she moves pretty fast! the little town of helena was packed with fun on the 4th. the farmers market kicked everything off, we had blueberry pancakes and sausage for breakfast,made by the civitan club, we bought homeade cinnamon sourdough bread, and a pot of basil from the herb lady, beautiful weather, perfected limeade made by the Underwood family, ending with the best fireworks I have seen and we were able to watch them from our studio!bye bye adorable,pink,size 7, flower inlay justin boots...these went on the shelf on Friday and were gone by Saturday afternoon. the brown boho boots on the left just arrived also, distressed to perfection, with a 2 inch heel! the good news.....we have 2 more pairs of vintage justin's arriving at the end of next week!

Did i mention that i am in love with this new little neighborhood called Old Town Helena! in this photo is the little wedding chapel across the street. you can kind of see the blurry little statue in the back, that's LJ! someone very clever and sneaky dresses him for all the different holiday's and they have never gotten caught. I still think his skirt looks like Judy at the Monkey Basket's window treatments! Very cool place, more to come later on Judy and her cute store. This week LJ is cross dressed in a red white and blue dress with a flag halter top! Come make a red white and blue candle with us today and tomorrow. Tonight we are open until 9:00pm.....don't you dig the vintage coke bottle caps Dave added to these beauties!

The most exciting news of the day. La Reunion coffee shop opened across the street!!!Hallelujah!!!Let me tell you, it is fantastic, the owners are as nice as they can be, and the atmosphere is so charming. They just opened this morning and I have already tried a mango strawberry smoothie, a Reese's cup frap, Iced Coffee, and a ham & cheese croissant....

movie night tonight in the park across the street at dusk....Over The Hedge is the feature...Stop by before the movie and make a candle. It will be ready for you to pick up after the movie! We will also open our doors bright and early tomorrow for the farmer's market. Look forward to seeing you!

Thrifty Thursday

This is my first time to participate in Thrifty Thursday.... I am not exactly sure what I am doing, but here goes...I know the green silk curtains are pretty cool, since they were a splurge at pottery barn they don't count! OH WAIT!!! The tie back for the curtains is a child's hand tooled leather belt for .50... This is our lounge at the studio, which everyone is welcome to hang out in, the chihuahua's and the kid's have grown quite partial to it! The retro lamp would be my thrifty find of the week. I purchased it from Mission Possible Bargain Center for $14.00, like brand new, it is the exact shade of green as the curtains... The chairs and table came from Goodwill, a total of $30.00 for all 3 pieces, not beautiful, however extremely comfortable. The plan is to recover the chairs and possibly paint the table, I'm always very open to suggestions....

The sermon at church this week really got me thinking.....The pastor listed at least 20 big companies that seem to be American made, however are NOT, here are a few examples: Levi's, Banana Republic, Budweiser, Fruit Of The Loom, Holiday Inn, Trader Joe's and almost everything at Walmart, and the list goes on and on! Here are a few of our favorites that were created here in Helena this week........pretty cool huh! Alexa made this stained glass pillar using charms and wax hearts.....scented blackberry and creme brulee..... We have all kinds of embellishments for you to choose from, charms, vintage bottle caps, initials, wax scented shapes and vintage keys! The possibilities are endless, come in and create with us!

Opening Day In Helena...

We had a wonderful first day at the studio in Helena! The community has reached out to us with open arms and have been such a huge blessing. I didn't know much about this little town when we decided to set up shop. In all of our years of traveling,I have never seen so many people who absolutely love their neighborhood! We are so excited to be a part of that. We were thrilled to have Brooke Smith from NBC 13 come to the studio today to do a spot on Wildflower Wax and make a candle. I am pretty sure it will air on July 27th, we'll keep you posted.

I hated to see these beautiful turquoise Frye boots sell today, however, a lovely lady named Leigh, who they will look fabulous on took them home! She has a note worthy blog I found called Tales From Bloggeritaville. So much has happened over the last week, that I have so much to share. My brain is in overdrive, I am exhausted, so there will be more to come later.

I have to say, I am a touch skeptical! This is what the studio looked like today after lunch ,and we are opening on Wednesday. It's a good thing Dave and I work best with a short deadline! My mom helped out a lot today by bringing us Moe's for lunch and getting the boots in their correct places. Of course, she also had to tell us we were doing it all wrong and painting everything the wrong color, because that's what mom's do. After pointing out the negative I have to say that she is a blessing and we are very thankful for her. My sweet Faith worked so hard in the back room today painting baskets for the different scented wax chunks to go in.

New Studio.....

well...here it is. The before pics of our new studio! We are thrilled to have found this old building. It used to be an old dairy. It sits right next to the railroad tracks. They have movie nights in the park across the street on Friday nights. On our block there's a day spa, shaved ice stand, two restaurants, a gift basket store, a gift store, a wedding chapel and my passion, a coffee shop right across the street! It was painted an awful green color on the inside with a faux finish wall in the back. We are in the process of giving it the white treatment. It has old bead board walls and ceiling. Can you believe we plan on opening this coming Wednesday! Please send lots of prayers our way....

Rosemary Shortbread

I got to stay home yesterday and clean the house while Dave went to the candle studio! I really don't like to clean, so in order to do so I have to motivate myself. I went and bought my favorite Meyers lavender all purpose soap, rearranged my living room, and made these cookies so my house would smell good. I had an over abundance of Rosemary as you can see in the picture below. The recipe said it would make 5 dozen cookies. I must have done something wrong, I ended up with crumbly dough that wouldn't roll out right, maybe too much flour? After all of my efforts were exhausted, the dough ended up getting squished in my hands and pounded onto the baking sheet! The result was around 1 dozen cookies....They ended up looking a little rustic, but they were yummy!!! Here's the recipe if you want to try it, just go easy on the flour............... Rosemary Shortbread
2 sticks of butter softened

2/3 cup confectioners sugar sifted

3 cups all purpose flour

3 Tablespoons chopped fresh rosemary

Preheat the oven to 325. Beat the butter in a mixing bowl until creamy. Gradually add the sugar, beating constantly until blended. Beat in the flour until smooth and stir in the rosemary. Roll the dough 1/4 inch thick on a lightly floured surface and cut into rounds using a small round cutter. ( This is where I decided to take matters in to my own hands(no pun intended), but for those of you who are less challenged in the kitchen I am posting the original instructions.

Arrange the rounds on a lightly greased baking sheet and bake for 16 to 18 minutes or until light brown around the edges. Cool on the cookie sheet for 2 minutes and remove to a wire rack to cool completely. Store in airtight container.

A Time For Rest

Today was our first Monday to be closed at the studio. I wasn't quite sure what to do with all my free time! I walked outside to a wonderful smell and realized that four of our gardenia bushes were blooming right in front of our house and I have been so busy I didn't even notice!

We took Alexa & Faith, our neighor Chris and the two chihuahuas swimming at the Cahaba River! Nobody got wet.....

I hope everyone had a fantastic Memorial Day! I don't have a whole lot to say about the candle studio today because of the long weekend! We have been in the recording studio with Alexa our 15 year old, who plays guitar and writes beautiful praise and worship music. Tony at http://www.audioczarproductions.com/ is in the middle of producing two of her songs. He brought in some extremely talented musicians, George Vinson(guitar) and Jimmy(drums) from Nashville, Kenny Talley from the Goodfellas (keyboards)from Birmingham. They are all incredibly talented. Behind our studio is this great little alley where little flecks of light shine through the trees. It's my favorite place to go to just get away for a minute. There is always a stray cat or two to play with, discarded junk to look at, a slight breeze, which carries the scent of freshly made candles out the side window and down the street. Candle Party At The Studio

Last night was a blast! We met 18 fantastic ladies who know how to throw one incredible b'day party! They used the studio for the evening, and made their own custom candles. They picked which scents and colors they wanted, put their design skills to work, and were able to see first hand how we make our candles. Candle Scent That Absorbs Odor?

Many times I have been asked the question, "Do you have a candle that takes away pet odors and such?" There are a lot of companies out there marketing odor absorbing candles. Our Spa Blue scented candles are great for this purpose! We don't market Spa Blue as odor eliminating, however after our chihuahuas came along I have found this scent to really do the trick! It is available in our soy wax mason jars and also in pillar form (pictured). Prices range from $6.00 for one of our square chunkies ,to $23.00 for our 4x4.5 which will burn over 100 hours and is my personal fave! Our candles are not like other candles! They will scent your room when they are not even lit.

Saturday's Treasure Hunt

I absolutely love yard sales, looking for little treasures that people discard as junk, and then capturing the joy in photographs! So that's what Alexa and I did today. You will notice she is smiling this time! I found these little black strappy heels for her for $5.00, which she loves and they look brand new. This little dress was $4.00 and the vintage necklace was a find that we have had in the store for a couple of months that has gone unoticed hanging on the wall, I have been tempted to take it home. The beads have some sparkle and the necklace is hand knotted between each bead. If your interested it's a steal at $15.00!

Today has been very productive but exhausting. We finally have a dressing room, so no more trying clothes on in the bathroom! We had to ship our broken candle melter back to the manufacturer which is slowing down our production. Alexa hates modeling these clothes for me, which stinks because she is really good at it. She had a very bad attitude today, which explains why you don't see her face in any of the pictures! Faith absolutely refuses to be included in any of my joy of picture making.

This is a new clothing line we are carrying in our store called Salt Of The Earth, which everyone is completely in love with! I will be posting more pictures soon. Their ministry is fashion grounded in faith! "Commit to the Lord whatever you do and your plans will succeed." Proverbs 16:3. The turquoise shirt is a burnout tee that says, "Sing Praise". Everyday I look at the collection of boots in the store and wonder where they came from and who wore them. I bought these black and white boots in Fort Lauderdale in 1990. I wore them almost everyday for a couple of years. They went with me backstage to meet Metallica and Queensryche, to Pantera and Marilyn Manson at the Button South in Miami, through countless disfunctional relationships. When I met Dave I was wearing these boots, with Daisy Duke shorts! After a couple of years I stopped wearing them. They sat in my closet for over 15 years, but I could not part with them. I started wearing them again a few months ago. I am so glad that God does not forget about us, wonder where we have been, look back on our past, or remember the wrong places where our feet may have taken us. Now I wear these boots to church to worship an amazing God! My daughter Alexa wears these boots when she spreads God's love through her music.
Sometimes we can't seem to part with God like I was not able to part with my old boots, but do we really want to wear him?

The best neighbors ever!

This is the second time we have done this show, it is always a blast! Pictured is our new friends we met Mark and Susan. Mark has a company called rebirthframes. The weather was so great we did not get a lot of school work done, the r.v. park we stayed in is just a few blocks from the show and it has a great pool. The show itself is right on the beach, so much fun! The crowds are unbelievable. We saw a lot of friends from Birmingham! Thanks to the Crawfords and the Harvey's for taking our children for the day, we love you guys! We also ate at a really cool restraunt called Lambert's. You hold up your hands and they throw hot rolls across the room, your drinks come in like 2 quart mugs, they bring around fried okra and potatoes. By the time your meal comes your stuffed! We will definately make that a tradition,the girls loved it's great atmosphere.
